Anchored Therapeutics
Anchored therapeutics provide a method of maintaining a pharmacological therapy in close contact with a targeted region of the body, overcoming the systemic toxicity caused by traditional immune-modulating treatments, and allowing higher doses for greater therapeutic impact.
However, many existing therapies of this type solubilize or degrade, releasing the cytokines, reducing their efficacy, and allowing for potential cytokine storm. Others may be small enough to be endocytosed, ending their therapeutic cycle. By attaching the immune-modulating treatments to a stable, persistent anchor that is too large to move or be engulfed, the cytokines are prevented from moving into cells or throughout the body, maintaining their activity and localizing therapy at the intended target until its removal.
Columbus Nanoworks employs micron-sized diamonds in its anchored therapeutic technology. The diamonds are large enough to prohibit their movement from the insertion point, and possess extreme chemical and physical stability. Our expertise in biochemistry, surface chemistry, and functionalization allows us to covalently attach therapeutics for persistent efficacy without the concern of detachment and systemic toxicity. When attached to a scaffold, the diamonds and their attached therapeutics can be placed in the desired location, and easily removed at any time. In addition, we employ our infinitely photostable diamonds for this therapy, so that patients and their physicians can be assured of complete removal of all materials following therapy.
